PALLETIZING GRIPPER : WHY CONTROL PRODUCT DEPOSIT RATHER THAN LETTING IT DROP ?

Depositing a product such as a box or bag onto a pallet is a crucial technique that ensures stability and quality of the stack. Poor stacking conditions are often synonymous with the deterioration of goods. Currently, there are different types of grippers on the market dedicated to product handling, the 3 main ones are :

The pneumatic gripper that handles products from the top.

The finger or claw gripper that supports the product from the bottom and releases it onto the pallet.

The angular palletizing gripper developed by ROBOVIC supports products from the bottom and deposits it on an angle.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES TO DEPOSITING PRODUCTS ON AN ANGLE ?

OPTIMIZE THE QUALITY OF PALLETIZING

The added value to ROBOVIC’s system lies in the deposit technique by the end of arm for palletizing. Contrary to vacuum grippers or finger/claws that release products over pallets, the angular deposit gripper maintains control of the product throughout the entire manipulation cycle.

ROBOVIC’s angular palletizing gripper manipulates products by the bottom, reproducing the movement of a human hand. Once the product is selected, the gripper is positioned at the level of the pile and precisely deposits the product by dragging it in order to maintain control throughout the entire process. This technique eliminates random positioning and thus builds a stable and compact pallet.

REDUCE THE RISK OF STACK COLLAPSING AND PRODUCT DAMAGE

Manipulating products from the top as suction cups do increases the risk of product deformation during the transfer to the pallet. In the case of boxes, there is also a risk of opening if the adhesive tape is poorly bonded to the card board.

Supporting the bottom like the angular deposit grip does with the end of arm for palletizing, reduces the risk of product damage and dropping during the palletizing process.

In order to promote the final quality of the stacks, ROBOVIC’s palletizing gripper, in addition to supporting the bottom part it also holds the products at the top.

MAXIMIZE THE POSITIONING OF THE BAGS AND RESPECT PALLET DIMENSIONS

In order to prevent bags from falling off the pallet, the claw/suction grippers leave an empty space at the time of removal. This safety margin is to avoid weakening the pile or bags from falling. As stacks pile up, this space left free can go beyond the pallet affecting the final quality of the pile that can become problematic for transport, storage or exporting internationally.

In contrast, ROBOVIC’s palletizing gripper does not leave any space between the rows of bags. During the angular deposit, the end of arm for palletizing is positioned to the level of the pile and deposits the bag by leaning it up against the one already in place in order to minimize space.

This manipulation also makes it possible to position the overlapping bags in order to avoid overflowing the pallet and to increase the stability of the piles. Thanks to this gripping technique, it is possible to stack two or three pallets of products in order to optimize the storage space.

REDUCE OVER PACKING COSTS

Finally, the fact of having a compact and stable pallet results in applying less plastic film during the wrapping process which reduces costs related to the purchase of packaging.

IN CONCLUSION

Selecting the right end of arm for palletizing when integrating a palletizing system is essential to guarantee the stability and quality of stacks while avoiding the risk of damage and falling products.

Robovic’s angular deposit technique can handle various types of products at the same time while considerably reducing cycle time. It is designed to meet the specific needs of many sectors of activity.

This angle deposit process can perform mixed palletizing such as stacking different formats (weight, size, shape) on their respective pallets while managing many types of products, such as bags, boxs , crates, bundles etc.
